Read about 3 kinds of power 10 years ago, still makes an enormous amount of sense.
Positional power: title, budget
Expertise power: know (how to do) something
Relationship power: helpful, a good egg
Consultants power positional power from their client executives (being introduced at the kick off meeting, owning the project plan). We have expertise power through our client experiences, logical structuring of the problem, and coaxing insight out of the data. Finally, we build rapport like sirens.
