Hello,
Rapport. You know when you've built a connection with someone. They assume good intent. They listen. They return your calls. They smile. They are engaged. YOU are loving it.
1) So how to build rapport? In a perfect world, you would have the persistence of a child, authority of a dentist, and years of built-up trust like a 20+ year married spouse.
2) Well, that's definitely not every client situation. In my mind, you want to be respectful, humble, relevant, and most of all, be yourself. Positioning. The blog post here.
3) A recent win:
I saved $143 - I put my consulting skills to good use recently - speaking with a customer service rep about a potential fine. It's a long story, but I made an somewhat innocent mistake and the government was going to charge me $150. After some rapport building and explaining, the government employee reduced the fine to $7. No easy feat.
4) Happy to hear your stories and feedback on rapport-building.
John
